New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has proclaimed Friday, March 27, as SEL Day in New Jersey, marking the first statewide celebration of social emotional learning (SEL). Though the coronavirus epidemic means that the day cannot be celebrated as planned with mass gatherings, school assemblies or library displays, it is still important to recognize the vital role that SEL plays in our schools and communities.
In this time of “social distancing” to prevent the spread of coronavirus, parents, teachers, school leaders and students can promote SEL Day through social media postings, online contests and activities, and articles and pictures of past events in traditional and online media.
For further information on SEL and SEL4NJ, go to http://www.sel4nj.org.

The enthusiasm for a collective voice within the state continues to grow, and the timing seems to be serendipitous, given the conversations taking place nationally. We are working hard behind the scenes to ensure a strong infra-structure and framework that will allow us to move forward efficiently and with significant impact.
At this meeting, we will hear updates on the national and state level, hear about funding opportunities from the New York Jets, review progress made in the past year, consider the structure of SEL4NJ, and create four new working groups to help with the business of the organization.
